Lamington angling club lease a stretch of the Clyde from Boat
Bridge , Thankerton, to the Bower Pool at Roberton. Nine miles
all in, this is made up of eighteen leases and we rely on the
continuing goodwill of our landlords for the superb unspoilt
surroundings and fishing. We lease almost all the fishing, both
banks; unleased stretches are few and far between and marked.
There is plenty of easy access and stiles, parking areas are all
clearly marked. In the main it is Fly fishing, there is however
one area, a large extended pool at Langholm where gravel was
extracted from the river where spinning fishing is permitted
after 1st may each year.
The river is crystal clear on a gravel bottom; easily and
safely wade-able running through open country the whole time.
Whilst composed mainly of runs and glides there is no shortage
of deep pools which may yield outstanding fish – 2003 saw two
brown trout in one evening, one 7 1/2lbs and the other 5 1/2lbs!
In winter we fish for Grayling and the once much neglected fish
is now providing good winter sport. We have a full time Bailiff
who polices the water and is available to answer any queries
members may have.
